Live 8 Berlin: First Impressions

Just came back from the Live 8 Concert, just in time to not have to hear Chris de Burgh.

We saw Audioslave, Green Day and german bands Juli and Silbermond. Audioslave and Green Day kicked ass (find a 3.8 MB AVI here). I felt a little provincial whilst seeing the german bands and in between the gigs you see the feed from London and Philly with all the kickass lineups. But hey, it’s not about the bands today but about the cause.

The location on the Strasse des 17. Juni was not your ideal concert location as it is only some 100m wide but 2000m long.

So the problem was that you couldn’t see the stage at all, we finally could find our way to one of the monitors installed. Sound was good though, so many people hung around in the Tiergarten park and listened to the concert from there.

Just as I write this Brian Wilson is playing… I am glad I can turn the sound of my TV off!

You’re right – it really seemed a bit provincial. A problem Berlin always has.

So tell us, the AVI looks like there were a lot of people, but hardly anybody is moving? What about the “Stimmung”? :)
