Watching the World Cup: 11Freunde WM Quartier

Ok, so we lost yesterday to Italy. And you know what? Semifinal is more than I allowed myself to dream about before the tournament began. It is a young team with future, so you better watch out for us at EURO 2008.

We watched the game at 11 Freunde WM Quartier, located at LIDO at the corner of Schlesische Strasse and Cuvrystrasse in Kreuzberg. LIDO is the former rehearsal stage of Berlins Schaub├╝hne.

You can watch the game inside in the theater room on a big screen or sit outside in the garden, where you can folow the game on four flatscreen tv’s.

Being the headquarter of germans most interesting soccer magazine, the crowd showed some more expertise than in other locations (at least I heard nobody explaining offsides to his girlfriend). It already was packed when we arrived there an hour prior to the game. Beer, Steak or Bratwurst satisfied our primairy needs before we settled on our bench to watch the game. Together we cheered, yelled and suffered, but it didn’t help our team.

Still, the location was fine and they the 11Freunde WM Quartier also offers an additional programme with bands and DJ’s after the game or on gamefree days. Be sure to check it out.
