Laura Lopez Castro

Popkomm is in town, so this week in Berlin it’s all about concerts, new labels, music and artists. I went to the concert of the new label Nesola at the Columbiahalle. Nesola is the new label by Max Herre and Joy Denalane, founded this April (Nesola means “not alone” in Esperanto – that rings any bells?).

Nesola concert

The first album on the label was “Mi Libro Abierto” by Laura L√≥pez Castro. Laura produced the album together with Ex-Freundeskreis-member Don Philippe, the style is a mixture of the melancholy of Fado, some Bossa Nova elements and south-american songwriters.

Well, how do I put it: to me the concert was monochrome, shades of grey. Maybe it wasn’t my kind of music or I wasn’t in the mood. It’s more like the music you listen to on a cold and grey winter day with a glass of red wine in your hand at home on the couch. But not with a plastic cup of Heineken in the Columbiahalle after a sunny september day.
