Praktikum – muss man machen! Aber wann wird eigentlich ein Praktikum zur Ausbeutung? Dies alles sind Fragen die oft in meinem Bekanntenkreis diskutiert werden.

Noch vor kurzem traf ich mich Abends mit einem Kollegen auf ein Bier, dann kamen noch zwei dazu und einer von beiden (29 Jahre alt) machte gerade sein x.-tes Praktikum bei einer Agentur in Berlin. Eigentlich alles toll, aber die Bezahlung – naja. Die Frage ob er sich mit 29 Jahren, einem abgeschlossenen Studium und Agenturerfahrung nicht ausbeuten lassen würde, kam dann auch relativ schnell.

Ich erinnere mich ungern an meine ersten zwei Jahre in Berlin – schlecht bezahlte Jobs, denn Geld gab es nach 2000 sowieso keins. Überall wurden Praktikanten mit vier Jahren Berufserfahrung und am besten mit Kenntnissen im Bereich Projektmanagement, Entwicklung und Design gesucht. Natürlich sollte der Kandidat auch mindestens sechs Monate (!!!) Zeit mitbringen. Wovon in dieser Zeit Miete und Leben bezahlt werden – das stand in keiner Stellenanzeige Praktikumsausschreibung.

Irgendwie befinden wir uns alle irgendwann in so einer Situation. Besonders in der Medienbranche sind viele Praktika “usus”. D.h., besonders viele unbezahlte Praktika. Berlin nimmt in diesem Bereich wohl noch eine Sonderrolle ein, denn nie habe ich es so dreist erlebt, dass Leute Praktikanten als billige Arbeitskräfte mißbrauchen wie hier. Den Satz, “Praktikant, das heisst doch umsonst”, habe ich in meinen fast acht Jahren Berlin von verschiedenen Leuten mehrmals gehört. Dass es den sogenannten Chefs nicht peinlich ist, dass sie da jemanden sechs Monate lang mit 50-60 Stunden pro Woche ausboten, für umsonst, während sie seine Arbeitskraft auch ganz gerne für Tagessätze von 500-800 EUR verkaufen – das ist mir allerdings schleierhaft.

Aber von Moral keine Spur.

Eben flatterte mir folgende Praktikumsausschreibung per E-Mail zu:

Guten Tag,

das XXX möchte seinen Intranetauftritt neu gestalten. Dafür suchen wir eine(n) versierte(n) Studierende(n) (Kommunikation oder Interface). Das könnte im Rahmen eines bezahlten Praktikums oder Werkvertrages geschehen, müsste aber aufgrund der Geheimhaltung auf jeden Fall bei uns im Hause passieren.

Der aktuelle Intranetauftritt basiert auf PHP und statischem HTML. Für die neuen Seiten kann zusätzlich Java und Flash benutzt werden.

Wir wünschen uns idealerweise eine interaktive Kommunikationsplattform, die auch als interenes Forum genutzt werden kann.

Unterstützung von IT-Seite ist vorhanden, betreuende Grafik- oder Interface Designer gibt es hier nicht. Dehalb muss die- oder derjenige relativ selbständig arbeiten können.

Wir möchten das Projekt gerne Anfang Juni starten.

Liebes XXX – ihr sucht also jemand der konzeptionell für Euch arbeitet und gleichzeitig auch die Umsetzung in Flash, Java/PHP und so weiter macht? Keine einfache Website, sondern eine Kommunikationsplattform!
Kurz überschlagen sind das mindestens vier Leute die Ihr sucht, nicht einen. Denkt eigentlich jemand von Euch nach, wenn er solche Stellenanzeigen rausgibt. Und wieso läßt sich die ZZZ für solche Ausbeuter instrumentalisieren?

Ich würde allen gern zwei Hinweise mit auf den Weg geben:

1. Arbeit sollte bezahlt werden.
2. Arbeit sollte angemessen bezahlt werden.

Es gibt viele junge Agenturen die so einen Auftrag gerne für Euch übernehmen würden. Viel kosten wird es Euch trotzdem nichts, immerhin sind wir in Berlin und nicht in München.

UPDATE: 22.05.2008 – Auf Grund eines Briefes, musste ich für’s erste die Namen aller beteiligten aus diesem Eintrag entfernen.

So I spent last weekend (Sat, Sun and Mon) in Hamburg visiting friends. If you are not familiar with the European landscape – Hamburg is a 2-3 hour car ride and just an hour if you take the train. So it’s actually in Berlin’s orbit – at least somewhat.

So anyway, though Berlin is still the Mekka of all streetart, Hamburg got its share.

Although the We-Can Project is not from Berlin and its current exhibition is also not in the capital, but at Galerie Fango in Cottbus, I really want to present the project here. Not only because some Berlin-based artists contributed to We-Can, but also because lots of fantastic artists from all over the world did – and because I just love that project!
The idea is as simple as ingenious: to send a little yellow plastic watering can to artist-friends all over the world, “from Cottbus to Singapur, from San Jose to Bern, from Brighton to New York” as it is written on Froodmat’s (the project’s initiator) blog, and wait and see what they will do with it!
And they did great stuff: have a look at the We-Can flickr group to get an impression or read about all the participating artists on the aforementioned blog.
Or even better: if you have any possibility to go to Cottbus in the near future, visit the exhibition – the can-art will be shown until the middle of june.

On Flickr I saw this fantastic photoset by Jonas K of the Olympic Village in Elstal / Dallgow-Döberitz just a few kilometers outside of Berlin. It shows the decay of the premises built to accommodate the athletes of the Olympics of 1936 in Nazi-Germany.
After the games the compound was used military for some decades until it was abandoned in 1992. Today it is landmarked but still deteriorating and open for the public from april to october.

At the moment it seems like all Berlin people are longing for sun and every bit of nature they can get: parks are crowded and covered by BBQ smoke, in the forests around Berlin you’ll get run over by bikes every second, brave people start dipping in the lakes and the first naked sunbathers were spotted already last weekend.
I have been out of Berlin in Werder (Havel) and now is just the right time to go there! All the fruit trees are blossoming, fresh green grass and leaves dare a glance out of their winter hideouts, glistening water whereever you look… and not too many people around. If you like it more “lively” and need more entertainment you should go there between 28th of April and 6th of May to attend the popular Baumblütenfest and have a few glasses of the (in-)famous fruitwine!

Anne’s post inspired me – I guess I need to get out more, so I was talking to a friend about going some place else, leaving the ci-ty,- and why not visit New York City? This is what Google Maps tells me. Note, check especially #40. ;-)

Once in a while it is necessary to get out of the city, even this city. And it is astonishing how beautiful nature is an hour from here. The pictures were taken in Küstrinchen. There is a house there that you can rent with a group of friends. Two days there and you feel like a new person, and ready for another round in the big city.

Starting the 1st February until the end of April (29th April, 2007), Potsdam-Babelsberg will host exclusively the “Lord of Rings” exhibition in Germany.

The travelling exhibition is already on its 6th stop around the world and is organized by “Te Papa Tongarewao Museum” (Newsealand), in cooperation with New Line Cinema (the producers of “Lord of the Rings”).

The exhibition features around 500 items – for example the ring – and has been seen by 1.2 million visitors already. According to Potsdam-Babelsberg the exhibition will also include items which have been previously not shown on any of the other stops – for example a white Gandalf and a couple others.
